How to Adopt
We’re dedicated to finding the perfect forever home for each of our rescue dogs. Many of our dogs have been let down in the past, and our goal is to ensure their next home is truly their last. That’s why we take extra care in matching each pet with the right family. Here’s how our adoption process works:
1. Submit an Application
Start by filling out our adoption application on ShelterLuv. This helps us learn more about you, your home, and what you’re looking for in a pet. Applications are processed in the order they are received. However, if a particular dog has multiple applications, it may take a little longer for us to review and respond. You can expect to hear from a volunteer within 24-48 hours of submitting your application.
2. Interview with a Volunteer
Once we receive your application, a volunteer will reach out to schedule a short interview. We’ll ask questions to get a better sense of your lifestyle, such as:
- What kind of space will the dog be living in? (House, apartment, fenced yard, etc.)
- What does an average day look like in your home?
- If you have other pets, what are they like? How do they interact with new animals?
While we follow standard adoption protocols, we understand that every dog is unique. Our main priority is ensuring that each adoption is the best long-term fit for both you and the dog.
3. Home & Vet Check
To ensure a safe and prepared environment, we conduct a video home check. This helps us confirm that your home is suitable for the specific needs of the dog you’re adopting. Additionally, we require that all pets in your household be up to date on vaccinations. A vet check is part of our process to confirm this.
4. Adoption Trial Period
We want every adoption to be a smooth transition for both you and your new pet. That’s why every adoption includes a built-in trial period, allowing you time to ensure the dog settles in comfortably.
Dogs need 3-7 days to begin showing their personality, eat consistently, and adjust to a new routine. During this time, we ask for patience and structure to help them feel safe. Sticking to a consistent routine and providing a calm, comfortable environment is key to a successful transition.
If you need any essential supplies and don’t have them, we can provide them for a deposit, allowing you to borrow what’s necessary to help your new pet settle in.
